However, in psychological analysis, we view the synthesis of this axis as a single energy channel. The Ascendant determines the mask through which we enter the world, our physical shell, and our primary reaction, while the Descendant describes the qualities we tend to attribute to others or seek in partners.
The Psychological Mechanism of Projection
When the energy of this axis is unbalanced, a mirroring effect occurs. A person projects the qualities of their Descendant onto others, believing that these traits belong only to others. Path to Axis Integration
To harmonize the interaction between the Ascendant and the Descendant, it is necessary to shift the energy from a mode of projection to a mode of interiorization. This means the conscious appropriation of the qualities of one's Descendant.
- Analysis of recurring patterns: List 3-5 common traits of all your significant partners. Most likely, these are your "unlived" qualities that you need to develop within yourself.
- Shadow work: Instead of becoming irritated by a partner's qualities, ask yourself: "In what situation would it be useful for me to manifest this trait?".
- Balance of autonomy: Practice conscious solitude. Strengthen the Ascendant (your "I") to enter relationships from a position of wholeness rather than a position of deficiency.
